3-6 YEAR PROGRAM
Children ages 3-6 years are curious and need to explore and discover their surroundings. Our Montessori classrooms are designed to allow the children to move, touch, manipulate and explore. The children have the freedom to choose their work with guidance from the teacher. All the materials in the classroom have been specially designed to attract the child's interest while at the same time teach an important concept.

The Montessori classroom is a mixed age group of children. The younger children observe and learn from the older students. In turn, the older students help their younger classmates.

There are five main core areas within the Montessori curriculum:

PRACTICAL LIFE – The Practical Life area is the foundation of the Montessori classroom. It is the heart of the classroom and is set up with just the child in mind. The activities in this area contain materials that have a purpose to the life of the three to six year old child. As the child masters these everyday living activities, he becomes independent, builds his self-esteem and has the confidence to move on to other areas of the classroom.

SENSORIAL – In this area of the classroom, the child is able to concentrate on the refinement of all his senses. The Sensorial materials allow the child to study his environment through his senses. The child can make distinctions in the things around him through his own experiences.

MATHEMATICS – The Montessori Mathematic materials allow the children to begin their mathematic journey from concrete to abstract. The children will internalize math skills by using concrete materials. This approach is logical, clear and very effective. Children receive individual lessons in this area.

LANGUAGE – In the Language area, the alphabet is taught phonetically. Using sandpaper letters, children trace the letter and are taught the sound of that letter. They go on to blend sounds together to make words. Writing is also introduced at this time. Children receive individual lessons in this area.

CULTURAL STUDIES – Geography, science, art, music and movement are all part of the child's day.

Sterling Warren Montessori also offers SPANISH and MUSIC classes for the children as part of our curriculum.

The 3-6 year program is 5 days a week 9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
